Effects of Booze Mulligan™ on the Impact of Alcohol in Humans; a pilot study Background and Aims:
Moderate to heavy alcohol consumption can cause several acute physiological changes such as flushed face, loss of motor control and coordination, slurred speech, confusion, etc. Moreover, many people experience adverse physical and mental effects the morning after consumption of alcohol (hangover). Previous research conducted in UCLA School of Medicine, and published in the January 2012 issue of Journal of Neuroscience, showed that dihydromyricetin (DHM, Booze Mulligan™) was able to counteract several acute effects of alcohol.
Natrica USA, being a non-animal testing company created a study with the purpose to ascertain whether or not Booze Mulligan combated these physiological changes caused by consumption of alcohol in male and female adults.
Methods: Twelve adult volunteers (men and women) participated in the placebo cross-over study over a two-week period. The effect of Booze Mulligan, or the lack of, was determined by monitoring blood alcohol concentration (BAC), motor reflexes, and hangover symptoms. Methods to determine motor reflexes were the standard stop light reaction test and the straight-line walk. In the cross-over study either placebo, or Booze Mulligan (1mg/kg body weight), was taken along with alcohol and BAC and motor reflexes were measured before, during, and after alcohol consumption. The same amount of alcohol was consumed in both placebo and Booze Mulligan studies. The effect of Booze Mulligan on hangover symptoms was assessed over eleven common symptoms.
Results: When compared to the placebo group, the data indicated that Booze Mulligan, when taken along with alcohol, resulted in quicker response to the stop light test, a higher score in the straight-line test, lower blood alcohol concentration (BAC), and significantly improved scores on the hangover symptoms evaluation.
Conclusion: Booze Mulligan has the ability to block the onset of, or to reduce, hangover symptoms when taken along with alcohol. The straight-line walk test results confirmed that Booze Mulligan reduces motor coordination impairment while drinking alcohol. Booze Mulligan’s ability to bind to the GABA-A receptors in the brain is believed to be responsible for maintaining better motor coordination and response time during alcohol consumption. Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) may also be reduced by Booze Mulligan intake.
Current survey with free samples: 50 adult men and women who drink regularly were asked to consume alcoholic beverages to the point where they felt they would feel negative effects the next day.
Conclusion: Currently we have collected 20 out of the 50 and 75% of the 20 would recommend this product to anyone who was going to consume more than 2-3 drinks
Future Clinical Study: The results shown in this study confirmed some of the important findings published in the Journal of Neuroscience and provided additional significant preliminary data on Booze Mulligan’s beneficial effects to support large clinical trials.
